Hanmi Pharmaceutical announced on July 16 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Korean Optometry Society at its headquarters in Seoul’s Songpa-gu, on July 9. The partnership aims to jointly develop and utilize a Fact Sheet based on domestic eye disease statistics to improve public eye health.
The agreement was attended by Hanmi Pharmaceutical’s Vice President of Domestic Business, Park Myung-hee, and Kim Eun-chul, President of the Korean Optometry Society, along with other officials. The main objective of this collaboration is to collect and analyze quantitative data on major eye conditions such as refractive errors, low vision, and presbyopia, and to produce an ‘Eye Disease Fact Sheet’ that can be directly applied in ophthalmology clinics.
Through this partnership, the two organizations plan to undertake research on Korean eye disease epidemiology using healthcare big data, analyze prevalence and population estimates, examine contact lens usage patterns, and produce and distribute Fact Sheets to support ophthalmic care.
Hanmi Pharmaceutical will handle statistical analysis and visualization of eye disease data, while the Korean Contact Lens Society will incorporate clinical insights from experienced contact lens specialists and oversee the practical field application and dissemination of the data.
Park Myung-hee stated, “This partnership is meaningful because it goes beyond raising awareness about eye diseases. We aim to produce tangible, practical resources that can truly assist in clinical practice. Moving forward, we will collaborate with academic and professional groups to present comprehensive solutions for the nation’s eye health.”
Kim Eun-chul added, “Refractive errors and presbyopia are closely linked to quality of life, yet there’s a lack of domestic statistical data. We hope this Fact Sheet will serve as an objective benchmark for the medical community and related industries.”
