SK hynix has announced the initiation of a novel educational program titled ‘AI for Impact,’ designed to enhance AI competencies among social enterprises and citizen scientists in the realms of environment, safety, and health. The launch event was held on May 13 at Heyground in Seongsu-dong, Seoul.
This initiative was developed in collaboration with Microsoft, aiming to bolster the AI capabilities of the social enterprise ecosystem, thereby aiding in the resolution of societal issues through advanced technology. The program seeks not only to expand the scope and impact of social value (SV) created by these enterprises but also to promote the understanding that everyday applications of AI can foster SV among the general public.
The program is geared towards individuals in social enterprises who are eager to enhance their AI skills, as well as participants from Foundation for Trees and Nature’s 'Citizen Scientist Sprout' initiative, who are interested in addressing issues in the environmental, safety, and health sectors. The curriculum, offered in partnership with Microsoft's Global AI Skills Initiative, includes foundational AI ethics and practical applications of generative AI. Learning is made accessible to all via the AI for Impact website.
Microsoft’s National Skills lead for Korea, Sung Jong-eun, Foundation for Trees and Nature’s chairperson Jang Jae-yeon, and SK hynix’s VP for SV Lee Bang-sil were among the attendees, articulating the program’s objectives and future operations. The event also featured offline sessions for over 100 social enterprise members and citizen scientists, covering topics such as data analysis, problem-solving using public data and generative AI, and AI automation.
Kang Seung-hee, Deputy CEO of social enterprise BeConnect Lab, expressed satisfaction, stating, "The training on generative AI utilization is immensely beneficial for harnessing data and applying AI effectively for social enterprise needs." Meanwhile, Min-Sun Park, CEO of Open Door, shared, "The efficiency and potential of AI in environmental research are profound, offering innovative pathways for tackling environmental challenges."
Jang Jae-yeon emphasized, "We are committed to continuously leveraging AI technologies to resolve diverse social issues and generate social value in the fields of environment, safety, and health." Echoing this sentiment, Lee Bang-sil added, "We anticipate this program will significantly enhance AI proficiency for social enterprises and citizen scientists, and we plan to continue expanding our AI educational offerings."
Outstanding examples discovered through the AI for Impact training will be presented in a forum at the upcoming 2nd Korea Social Value Festival.
