Shinhan Bank announced on May 26 the opening of its new ‘Doksan-dong Foreign-Focused Branch’ in Doksan-dong, Geumcheon-gu, Seoul, dedicated to serving foreign customers.
This specialized branch combines a conventional banking counter environment—where customers can open accounts and perform international remittances with face-to-face consultations—with a ‘Digital Lounge’ offering ten foreign language services via video consultations. The integration aims to cater specifically to foreign clients’ banking needs.
After thorough analysis of foreign resident demographics and nationality distributions across regions, Shinhan Bank selected Doksan-dong as the second location for a foreign customer-focused branch—an area with a vibrant foreign community but relatively limited access to Korean financial services.
Operating hours are designed with foreign customers in mind. The in-person consultation counters are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and Sundays, while the Digital Lounge, providing video consultations, operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays.
A Shinhan Bank official stated, “We hope foreign clients can enjoy convenient banking transactions every day and experience our differentiated financial services. Moving forward, we plan to expand foreign-centered branches in key foreign-resident areas and develop seamless, customer-oriented financial solutions.”
In addition, Shinhan Bank recently overhauled its mobile web channel in April, introducing a dedicated menu supporting 16 languages for foreign customers. This allows customers who find it difficult to access the existing banking app to open accounts, make deposits and withdrawals, and obtain check cards on the mobile web in their preferred language.
