Doosan Corporation announced on July 31 that it has successfully established and validated a carbon footprint assessment solution for its key product, copper-clad laminate (CCL), marking a significant step toward sustainable management practices.
The company developed the "DOO LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)" solution to evaluate the carbon footprint across the entire life cycle of its CCL products—including raw material sourcing, manufacturing, transportation, usage, and disposal. Following its development, Doosan completed a third-party verification conducted by LRQA, a leading global greenhouse gas verification organization, on July 31. The verification process was based on international standards for carbon footprint assessment, including ISO 14040:2006, ISO 14044:2006, and ISO 14067:2018.
LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is a method that quantitatively analyzes environmental impacts throughout a product's entire life span, from resource extraction through manufacturing, distribution, usage, and disposal.
This new solution allows for systematic data management of carbon emissions generated during all stages of product production. It is integrated with Doosan’s internal IT systems for enhanced convenience and has been designed with scalability in mind to accommodate process changes or expansion of the product lineup, especially as the company diversifies its CCL offerings.
CCL (Copper Clad Laminate) is a vital material in the production of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and is used extensively in semiconductors, communication equipment network boards, mobile devices, and wearables. Importantly, CCL for AI accelerators, which exhibits low dielectric and low loss features, can supply large volumes of high-speed data in high-frequency domains, attracting significant interest from global AI semiconductor firms.
A Doosan spokesperson stated, “This is the first time we have developed and validated a product’s carbon footprint evaluation solution,” adding, “With DOO LCA, we aim to systematically manage our product emissions to proactively meet the sustainability demands of our global IT clients and strengthen our market position.”
