In a transformative step for sustainable agriculture, Korea’s National Assembly has passed the “Act on Transition and Support for Carbon Neutrality in the Korean Native Beef Industry” (commonly known as the Hanwoo Act) on July 3. This pivotal legislation underscores the government’s commitment to reducing agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and opens new opportunities for innovation in climate technology.
Metech Holdings, a leading climate-tech startup specializing in livestock methane reduction, stands at the forefront of this shift. The company’s groundbreaking research in ruminant methane mitigation—including the world’s first ingestible “Methane Capsule” for real-time monitoring—positions it as a key player in the implementation of the Hanwoo Act.
“This legislation marks a new era for the Korean beef industry and a turning point for climate resilience,” said Chanmok Park, CEO of Metech Holdings. “We are proud to contribute to the nation’s carbon neutrality goals by providing practical, science-based solutions that benefit both the environment and the agricultural economy.”
The Methane Capsule developed by Metech enables real-time tracking of methane emissions in cattle, allowing for targeted interventions and improved environmental outcomes. With the passage of the Hanwoo Act, such technologies are expected to gain broader adoption across the livestock sector.
The legislation includes provisions for transitional support and incentives aimed at helping farmers reduce carbon footprints while maintaining productivity. As a recognized innovator in the field, Metech Holdings is expected to play a significant role in deploying scalable solutions that align with these national goals.
This development is also anticipated to attract increased attention from investors and international partners interested in sustainable food systems and next-generation agri-tech.
