LG Uplus has announced the launch of a new exclusive mobile plan tailored for foreign residents living in Korea. The new ‘Foreign Resident Promotion Plan’ offers free international calls and roaming benefits, aiming to provide a differentiated customer experience and strengthen its focus on the international market.
The number of foreigners residing in Korea has been steadily increasing due to study, work, and other reasons. According to Ministry of Justice statistics, as of the end of 2024, approximately 2.65 million foreigners are living in Korea, accounting for about 5% of the total population. Among them, over 2 million are long-term residents, emphasizing the growing importance of foreign customers.
In response to this trend, LG Uplus has introduced seven dedicated plans specifically designed for foreign residents. These postpaid plans are the largest of their kind offered by any domestic telecom provider. The company conducted surveys among foreign residents and identified their key needs: ample data, international calls, and roaming benefits necessary for contacting family and friends back home, as well as for international travel.
The new plans range from 37,000 KRW to 85,000 KRW per month, offering additional international call credits and enhanced roaming data benefits. Specifically, the seven plans include:
- Foreign Resident 5GB (37,000 KRW/month, 5GB data, reduced speed to 400 Kbps after data exhaustion)
- Foreign Resident 9GB (47,000 KRW/month, 9GB, 400 Kbps limit)
- Foreign Resident 14GB (55,000 KRW/month, 14GB, 1 Mbps limit)
- Foreign Resident 31GB (61,000 KRW/month, 31GB, 1 Mbps limit)
- Foreign Resident 80GB (66,000 KRW/month, 80GB, 1 Mbps limit)
- Foreign Resident 150GB (75,000 KRW/month, 150GB, 5 Mbps limit)
- Foreign Resident Unlimited (85,000 KRW/month, unlimited data)
Customers subscribing to these plans will receive up to 90 minutes of free international calls each month. Additionally, if they subscribe to the ‘Roaming Pass’ service when traveling abroad or back to their home country, they will enjoy twice the amount of data. This enables foreign residents to communicate freely with family and friends regardless of location, both in Korea and overseas.
Any customer holding a foreign registration card can sign up online or at LG Uplus stores for these plans. Since these are promotional plans, enrollment is available only until December 29.
LG Uplus is also actively targeting foreign customers in their 20s and 30s who reside in Korea for study or work. Younger customers under the age of 34 can receive additional benefits, such as extra data ranging from 4GB to 60GB, when signing up for these plans.
Furthermore, LG Uplus is leveraging its ‘Youth Spirit’ university ambassador program to promote these plans, and has signed agreements with universities such as Hanyang University, Inha University, and Kangwon National University to facilitate easier access for international students.
The company continues to focus on expanding its growth in the mobile market by catering to foreign residents. Previously, LG Uplus designated 67 stores nationwide as specialized outlets for foreigners, primarily located in ethnic-dense areas, and provided communication documents in 17 languages including English, Vietnamese, and Lao to streamline sign-up procedures.
In addition, LG Uplus has expanded its staff to over 170 multilingual agents from countries such as China and Russia to better serve international customers and address their service needs.
