SK Innovation has announced that it will replace all executive company vehicles with domestic electric vehicles (EVs). Executives at SK Innovation and its subsidiaries are now applying to choose between Hyundai's Ioniq 9 or the eG80 as their new company cars, shifting away from traditional internal combustion engines. Notably, SK On, the battery division of SK Innovation, supplies batteries for both of these electric models.
The company plans to start the transition to EVs for executive use at the beginning of next month and aims to complete the process by the end of this year.
A company representative highlighted that "the domestic electric vehicle industry has faced challenges due to global economic slowdowns and the market's transitional chasm period." The spokesperson added that the move to adopt electric vehicles by company executives is a gesture to promote the wider adoption of EVs in Korea.
In addition, SK Innovation is planning to significantly expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure and safety facilities at its subsidiary buildings, including the SK Seorin Building located in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Meanwhile, SK On has been running a purchase subsidy discount program since June last year to encourage employees to buy electric vehicles equipped with its batteries. This program is specifically for Hyundai and Kia EVs. In the third quarter of this year, SK On increased the purchase support for the Ioniq 9 from 10 million KRW to 15 million KRW, enhancing these benefits further.
