POSCO has announced a strategic partnership with Franke, the largest system kitchen manufacturer in Europe, to launch a new line of customized, eco-friendly premium stainless steel sinks. The initiative aims to support both companies’ sustainability goals amid increasing environmental regulations worldwide.
The new sinks are produced with POSCO’s environmentally conscious stainless steel, which features over 90% recycled content. The steel's development incorporated renewable energy such as solar power at POSCO’s facilities, significantly reducing the carbon footprint associated with manufacturing.
The product was rigorously tested by TUV SUD, a leading German certification body, at various stages of development, and its carbon footprint has been independently verified. The results indicate that the new product achieves approximately a 60% reduction in carbon emissions compared to existing environmental standards.
In a signing ceremony held on June 23 in Verona, Italy, POSCO and Franke formalized their cooperation through a memorandum of understanding for the supply of eco-friendly materials. This collaboration is expected to accelerate the expansion of sustainable kitchen products in Europe.
Filippo Maltemp, Franke’s senior manager of procurement and product development, remarked, “Our collaboration with POSCO has been fruitful since 2012, and their high-quality materials have become essential to our sustainable product offerings.”
Kyeongjin Lee, head of POSCO’s Stainless Steel Marketing Division, articulated plans to broaden support for clients in various sectors—including home appliances—aiming to enhance POSCO’s competitiveness in the global market for low-carbon steel solutions.
