Doosan Enerbility announced on May 26 that it, together with Korea Southern Power (KOSPO), attended the 7F Users Group Conference held in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, from May 19 to 23. The five-day event marked its 35th edition this year.
This conference is the world’s largest gathering of gas turbine users, bringing together major power generation companies operating the 7F series (150MW class) gas turbines produced by international manufacturers. The event provides a platform for sharing maintenance experiences and operational technologies. Currently, over 940 units of the 7F series have been supplied worldwide, with approximately 660 units in operation across the United States.
During the conference, Doosan Enerbility and KOSPO conducted their first joint presentation on “Non-OEM Performance Improvement (Retrofit) Success Cases,” highlighting a collaborative effort between users and suppliers. Lee Hwa-seop, Head of the Busan Bitdream Headquarters of KOSPO, explained the background of introducing Non-OEM technologies, emphasizing the technical and economic benefits from an operator’s perspective to a global audience. Scott Keller, Engineering Director at Doosan Turbomachinery Services (DTS), introduced the features of key gas turbine parts—such as rotors, casings, and high-temperature components—developed in-house by Doosan, along with DTS’s competitive gas turbine maintenance technologies.
In January, Doosan Enerbility and KOSPO established the “Turbine Export Community Team Korea,” aiming to actively expand into the North American market based on domestic gas turbine service technologies. The recent conference serves as a stepping stone for Doosan to strengthen business activities in North America via its local subsidiary DTS.
A Doosan Enerbility spokesperson commented, “This joint presentation between user and supplier was a first and effectively showcased Korea’s gas turbine technology to North American customers. We plan to continue expanding the gas turbine service ecosystem in collaboration with local partners and reinforce our global market presence.”
Additionally, during the event period, on May 20, Doosan Enerbility signed a domestic gas turbine reconditioning contract with Korea Southern Power. This reconditioning service involves inspecting, repairing, or replacing critical components to maintain or improve gas turbine performance and lifespan. Notably, this is the first case of such a contract based entirely on domestically developed technology.
