Seoul, South Korea - On February 20, in a landmark event that underscored Turkmenistan's commitment to global peace and stability, the nation's Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Begench Durdyyev, addressed a gathering in Seoul to mark the proclamation of the "International Year of Peace and Trust" for 2025. The event also celebrated the 30th anniversary of Turkmenistan's Permanent Neutrality, highlighting its enduring role on the international stage.
Ambassador Durdyyev commenced by expressing gratitude to the attendees, reflecting on the meaningful synergy between Turkmenistan's national milestones and global peace initiatives. With 2025 designated as the “International Year of Peace and Trust” by a UN resolution co-sponsored by 86 member states, Turkmenistan positions itself as a beacon for peaceful diplomacy and conflict resolution.
"Turkmenistan, adhering to principles of non-interference and opting for diplomatic means to resolve conflicts, has significantly contributed to global peace efforts," emphasized Ambassador Durdyyev. He acknowledged the UN resolution's embodiment of the philosophy espoused by Turkmenistan's leadership, with an emphasis on dialogue as a cornerstone of peace.
The year 2025 also marks the anniversary of historical milestones, including the 80th founding year of the United Nations and 33 years of diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and South Korea, exemplifying a commitment to deepening bilateral ties. Ambassador Durdyyev praised the positive trajectory of Turkmenistan-South Korea relations since the signing of their diplomatic protocol in 1992, highlighting the areas of politics, economy, and cultural exchange.
Under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan is proactively addressing humanitarian issues, particularly focusing on the rights of refugees, support for women and children, and fostering youth development. A significant highlight came with the unveiling of President Berdimuhamedov’s book, "Magtymguly – the Sage of the World," reflecting Turkmenistan's rich cultural heritage and its philosophical backing for peaceful coexistence.
A key component of the year's programs includes numerous international forums, conferences, and cultural events aimed at promoting peace and trust. These activities, ranging from thematic UN meetings to regional peace dialogues, illustrate Turkmenistan’s dedication to fostering international cooperation and understanding.
As the world embraces the International Year of Peace and Trust, Turkmenistan remains dedicated to its historical tradition of neutrality, portraying a steadfast allegiance to peaceful diplomacy as essential for global harmony. Ambassador Durdyyev’s invitation to South Korean government and media representatives to partake in this year's events underscores this commitment, promising a year rich with opportunities for collaboration in pursuit of global stability and prosperity.
Ambassador Durdyyev extended an invitation to the attendees to enjoy traditional Turkmen hospitality at a light lunch, symbolizing Turkmenistan’s tradition of goodwill and neighborly relations.
