SK Innovation announced on August 13 that it has received the highest possible rating of “AAA” in the 2025 MSCI ESG assessment, a prominent international evaluation of companies’ environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance.
Since officially declaring its ESG management in 2021, SK Innovation has progressively improved its assessment scores. The company initially moved from a BBB rating to an A, then maintained a consistent A rating for three consecutive years. In 2024, it achieved an AA rating, and now, in 2025, the company has been awarded the top-tier AAA rating, recognizing its outstanding overall ESG performance.
In the environmental domain, SK Innovation was praised for its efforts to reduce carbon emissions, strengthen hazardous materials and waste management, and expand safety and environmental management systems across its global operations. Notably, its efforts to decrease waste and hazardous materials emissions compared to the previous year were positively reflected in the evaluation.
On the social front, SK Innovation’s safety, health, and environmental (SHE) policies implemented at major domestic and international sites have earned certifications under international safety and environmental management standards. The company’s consistent application of these policies to external partners, under the leadership of its board of directors, also received commendation.
Additionally, SK Innovation was recognized for strengthening the expertise and independence of its board, establishing a governance structure aligned with global standards. Enhanced anti-corruption and corporate ethics management at the board level significantly contributed to the higher rating.
A company official stated, “Achieving the highest rating in the MSCI ESG evaluation reflects our global recognition for sustainability across environmental, social, and governance areas.”
