Genesis BBQ Group, Korea’s largest chicken franchise, announced that it has partnered with Highland Food Group to begin its first export of Korean-made convenience food products to Europe. The company held a celebration event at the Highland Innovation Complex Manufacturing and Logistics Center in Changwon on July 22, marking the sealing of quarantine and the shipment of the first batch.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Food & Drug Administration recently finalized sanitary and quarantine negotiations with the European Union for the export of Korean chicken-based convenience foods. With the official opening of export trade last year, BBQ carefully examined local European demand and conducted ongoing discussions with Highland Food Group, which has strong quality competitiveness, to move forward with production and export.
The event was attended by key executives from BBQ and Highland Food Group, as well as officials from the Animal & Plant Quarantine Agency and the Korea Food & Drug Administration. Following the quarantine sealing, the ceremony included the official shipment celebration.
Starting with three types of convenience foods made from domestic chicken breast and tenderloin, BBQ plans to expand its product lineup and strengthen its export activities moving forward.
A BBQ representative stated, “It is very meaningful that Korea’s chicken products are now being exported to Europe, with BBQ leading this initiative. We will actively utilize less-consumed chicken breast and tenderloin domestically in order to expand exports and contribute to easing difficulties faced by domestic poultry farmers.”
