JW Bioscience announced on July 16 that it has launched the 'Tissue-Tek AutoTEC a120,' Japan’s leading pathology automation company's continuous automatic embedding system from Sakura Finetek, into the Korean market.
The AutoTEC a120 is the industry’s first and only fully automated, continuous embedding system that automates the process of converting patient tissue samples into paraffin blocks during pathology diagnosis. Embedding is a crucial step that involves preparing tissue samples for microscopic analysis, requiring precise sectioning to ensure diagnostic accuracy.
This system maintains tissue sample alignment and standardization through automated devices and specialized Paraform Cassettes, enabling the production of uniform blocks. It boasts a processing speed of up to 120 tissue blocks per hour, significantly increasing throughput.
The device effectively addresses common issues encountered in manual embedding, such as sample loss, contamination, misalignment, and uneven block quality. In North American pathology laboratories that adopted the AutoTEC a120, errors related to embedding quality decreased by approximately 44%, with marked improvements in the precision and safety of tissue blocks.
The AutoTEC a120 also features SMARTair technology, which automatically removes residual paraffin around the cassette, improving subsequent process efficiency. Additionally, it can be integrated with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) via barcode readers, facilitating traceability and system interoperability.
JW Bioscience plans to further strengthen its portfolio and market response to the increasing demand for automation in pathology diagnosis.
A company spokesperson stated, “With the rising demand for cancer diagnosis due to an aging population and advances in precision medicine, automation is gaining significant interest. The AutoTEC a120 will innovatively enhance diagnostic accuracy and operational efficiency in pathology laboratories.”
JW Bioscience, a subsidiary of JW Life Sciences, is a specialized company in in-vitro diagnostics. Based on its partnership with Sakura Finetek, JW Bioscience exclusively supplies pathology automation equipment in Korea, including the AutoTEC a120, continuous tissue processor ‘Xpress x120,’ automated stainer ‘Prisma Plus,’ and film coverslippers ‘Film E2.’
