LS Marine Solution has been selected as the preferred contractor for the submarine cable construction segment of the Shinan Uli Offshore Wind Power Project, located near Uli Island in Shinan County, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, the company announced on July 9.
This project is a 390MW offshore wind development led by a consortium headed by Hanwha Ocean and SK E&C. The construction is scheduled to commence in 2025, with submarine cable installation planned for 2027, and commercial operation expected to begin in early 2029.
Following recent successful bids on major projects such as the TPC2 (295MW) offshore wind project by Taiwan Power Company, and being chosen as the preferred contractor for the Haesung Offshore Wind (1GW), LS Marine Solution has demonstrated its engineering capabilities and global execution prowess by securing this new contract as well.
The company attributes its successful selection to its experience in the successful construction of the first phase of the Jeonnam offshore wind project in 2024 and its close collaboration with Hanwha Ocean throughout the planning stages of the wind farm.
Kim Byeong-ok, CEO of LS Marine Solution, stated, “This project marks the practical start of the Shinan offshore wind belt, which is planned to reach 8.2GW, and we believe it will serve as a foundation for securing subsequent projects.”
LS Marine Solution is also accelerating its expansion into the HVDC submarine cable market. Building on its experience in establishing submarine power grids in Jeju and its status as the only domestic builder of HVDC dedicated construction vessels, the company is actively participating in the envisioned multi-trillion won “West Coast HVDC Energy Highway” project.
