Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) announced that it will conduct a training program titled “Strengthening Road Operation and Maintenance Capabilities” from June 22 to July 5, inviting 12 officials from Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications and the National Road Agency.
This training is part of the Korea International Cooperation Agency’s (KOICA) global training initiative. Since 2024, KEC has annually invited approximately 15 Peruvian government officials to transfer Korea’s advanced road management systems and expertise, fostering international cooperation in infrastructure development.
The training program covers various topics including traffic policy, construction and maintenance of bridges, tunnels, and pavement facilities, traffic operation and safety management, and toll collection systems. It also includes on-site visits to key infrastructure projects such as the construction site of the Han River Tunnel.
A highlight of the program took place on June 26, when trainees visited the Han River Tunnel construction site to observe the construction process and experience the maintenance systems firsthand. The visit garnered significant interest among participants.
Through this program, KEC aims to strengthen the foundation of transportation infrastructure cooperation and expand opportunities for market entry into Latin America, particularly Peru.
Additionally, since July 2023, KEC has been implementing its “Smart Road Management Master Plan” in major highways in Peru, introducing cutting-edge road management technologies. The corporation is also engaged in local projects such as a feasibility study for the Lima-Chancay Smart ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) construction.
Jang Jin-kyu, president of Korea Expressway Corporation, stated, “We hope that Korea’s experience and technology in highway operation can be practically beneficial for Peru’s road infrastructure development.” He added, “We look forward to further expanding our cooperation with Peru and other Latin American countries through this training program.”
