Samyang Foods is setting the stage for a new era of growth by fortifying its core infrastructure for global market penetration. On June 11, Samyang Foods inaugurated its new Milkyang Plant 2 in the NaNo Convergence National Industrial Complex in Bubuk-myeon, Miryang City, Gyeongnam, marking the beginning of its operations. This new plant, alongside the first Milkyang Plant completed in May 2022, is poised to become a major production hub aimed at enhancing overseas exports.
At the inauguration ceremony, Vice Chairman Kim Jung-soo stated, “The Buldak brand is merely at its inception stage, and it promises to grow even hotter and brighter. Through continuous effort and preparation, we aim to establish it as a beloved brand for many years.” Attended by over 300 individuals, the event welcomed key figures including Samyang Foods CEO Kim Dong-chan, Samyang Round Square CEO Jang Seok-hoon, Director General Kang Hyung-seok of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Gyeongnam Vice Governor Kim Myung-joo, and Miryang Mayor Ahn Byung-goo.
Annual Production Capacity of 830 Million Ramen Packets
Completed within 15 months, Plant 2 spans an area of approximately 10,000 square meters, featuring cutting-edge production facilities across its basement and three floors. It incorporates advanced smart factory systems to maximize production efficiency through predictive maintenance of facilities, energy savings, and real-time data monitoring.
Furthermore, the facility employs a quality management system (QMS) integrated with international quality certifications like RSPO and Halal, ensuring real-time management of quality metrics throughout the production process and guaranteeing safety.
In line with eco-friendly management strategies, solar power facilities have been expanded. Plant 2 houses a 750KW solar power system, and when combined with Plant 1, produces a total of 1.2MW of renewable energy, anticipating annual use of 1,530MW of clean power.
The introduction of automated warehouses and autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) has significantly enhanced logistics efficiency between the Milkyang Plant 1 and 2. With six production lines (three for bagged noodles and three for cup noodles), the operational Plant 2 will boost annual production capacity to approximately 830 million units, increasing Samyang Foods' annual Buldak noodle production from 2.08 billion units to nearly 2.8 billion units.
The Milkyang Plant 2 represents three critical advancements. Firstly, it prepares Samyang Foods to promptly meet soaring demand in major overseas markets like the U.S. and Europe, establishing a foothold to lead the global ramen market. Secondly, it elevates production efficiency and quality management standards through a more advanced smart factory system than its predecessor, positioning it as a "Mother Plant" to disseminate innovative technologies across domestic and international production hubs. Thirdly, it is expected to significantly contribute to regional economic stimulation and industrial development, fostering positive impacts on Miryang's industrial ecosystem through job creation and partnerships with local contractors.
Vice Chairman Kim stated, “Samyang Foods aims to become the unparalleled authority on spicy flavors. We plan to research and develop a variety of spicy flavors, offering consumers enhanced choices beyond current favorites like the mild-spicy Carbo Buldak, and establish the Buldak brand as more than just a product, but as a cultural icon.”
