Hyundai Steel has announced a strategic partnership with global cloud leader Amazon Web Services (AWS) to bolster its digital transformation efforts and reinforce eco-friendly steel manufacturing.
On July 1 (local time), at AWS’s headquarters in Seattle, within the iconic 'The Spheres,' Hyundai Steel and AWS signed a Strategic Framework Agreement (SFA). This alliance aims to accelerate Hyundai Steel’s digital transformation through the adoption of AWS cloud infrastructure and jointly explore the application of low-carbon steel products in AWS’s global data center constructions.
The signing ceremony was attended by AWS executives Martin Malik, Vice President for Business, and Kerry Persson, Vice President for Data Centers, alongside Hyundai Steel’s key representatives, including Kim Hoo-gon, Executive Director responsible for data center steel supply, and Kim Seung-hoe, Executive Director overseeing digital transformation.
Ozgur Tophomku, AWS’s Global Head of Automotive and Manufacturing, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “AWS and Hyundai Steel are committed to industry innovation and creating value for our customers. We are excited to work together leveraging cloud and AI technologies to drive Hyundai Steel’s digital revolution.”
Based on this agreement, Hyundai Steel is currently reviewing options to shift its domestic manufacturing management and data analysis systems to AWS’s cloud platform. The move aims to enhance real-time AI data integration and analysis capabilities, thus accelerating the realization of a smart factory.
Furthermore, Hyundai Steel will supply its low-carbon 인증 H-beam steel—a product distinguished as the first of its kind in Korea—to support AWS’s ongoing data center construction projects in the Asia-Pacific region. This contribution is expected to reduce carbon emissions during the construction process.
Kim Seung-hoe emphasized, “This partnership marks a crucial milestone in combining our technological expertise to develop low-carbon steel markets globally and strengthen our digital competitiveness. Moving forward, Hyundai Steel intends to continue leading industry innovation alongside AWS and pioneering the future of steel manufacturing.”
Notably, Hyundai Steel has proactively supplied low-carbon certified H-beam steel for AWS’s data center projects, demonstrating its commitment to environmentally sustainable construction solutions.
