CJ OliveNetworks announced on June 26 that it will launch new social contribution programs in collaboration with the Happiness Sharing Foundation and Yongsan Fire Department, utilizing advanced IT technologies. This initiative is designed to leverage the company’s digital expertise to address tangible social issues within local communities and support vulnerable populations.
The first phase of the program, introduced this year, involves an activity called ‘Wheelchair Mobility Data Collection’—a data-driven project aimed at improving accessibility for people with mobility challenges. Employees from CJ OliveNetworks will visit areas near their Seoul headquarters, Bundang office, and Songdo data center to directly survey and collect information on wheelchair-friendly pathways, accessible restrooms, ramps, and other facilities. The gathered data will be integrated into a dedicated app to enhance mobility convenience for disabled individuals.
In addition, the company is partnering with Yongsan Fire Department to conduct regular inspections and maintenance of ‘Visible Fire Extinguishers,’ which are installed in public locations such as traditional markets and densely populated residential areas that are vulnerable to fires. Currently, about 40,000 such fire extinguishers are in operation across Seoul.
CJ OliveNetworks employees, after receiving preliminary training, are using QR codes to inspect each fire extinguisher’s condition—recording damage or malfunction—and inputting this data into a system that links with Yongsan Fire Department for maintenance and repair. The company plans to continue monitoring and analyzing collected data to propose ongoing improvements.
A representative from CJ OliveNetworks stated, “It is meaningful that our employees voluntarily participate in activities that make practical social contributions using our IT expertise. Moving forward, we will expand sustainable digital social contribution activities to support local communities and vulnerable groups.”
Since 2015, CJ OliveNetworks has also operated the “CJ SW Creativity Camp,” an AI and software education program involving employee participation. The company has been continually working to bridge the digital divide by expanding educational opportunities for low-income families, multicultural households, and senior citizens.
