LG Display has announced the successful mass production of its latest OLED panels, utilizing its own proprietary technology to set new industry standards. This milestone marks LG Display's aggressive expansion into high-end gaming and professional-grade monitor markets.
The newly mass-produced product is a 27-inch OLED panel featuring LG Display’s core 4th-generation OLED technology, equipped with a ‘Primary RGB Tandem’ structure. This innovative design independently arranges four layers of red, green, and blue sub-pixels, significantly enhancing luminance and color reproduction compared to previous generations. The panel boasts a maximum brightness of 1,500 nits, a refresh rate of 280Hz, and a color accuracy of 99.5%.
LG Display asserts that this model achieves a “world-best” title across three critical gaming metrics: high brightness, ultra-high refresh rate, and ultra-fast response time — establishing new benchmarks for OLED monitors in the gaming industry.
Additionally, LG Display has developed a 540Hz QHD OLED monitor panel, marking a milestone as the first in the industry to surpass the famed 500Hz physical limit. To address image quality deterioration issues associated with high refresh rates, LG Display has introduced a proprietary advanced video processing algorithm. This enhancement delivers excellent performance in genres like FPS and racing games, where swift response and clarity are vital, making the product highly suitable for professional and high-end gamers.
Preliminary discussions with major global device manufacturers have already concluded, and LG Display plans to commence full-scale mass production in the second half of the year.
The new OLED panels also exhibit outstanding performance in response speed, with pixels changing color in just 0.03 milliseconds—up to 30 times faster than typical LCD monitors’ 1.0 milliseconds. This rapid response drastically reduces motion blur and ghosting during fast scene transitions.
In terms of image quality, the panels meet the highest standards defined by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA)’s ‘Clear Motion Ratio,’ achieving a score of 21,000—an indicator of vividly clear visuals surpassing all currently available commercial monitors.
These panels are tailored not only for the gaming market but also for professional content creation. Their 99.5% color reproduction makes them ideal for film production and color grading, and their design blocks 99% of external reflections, ensuring accurate color display even in brightly lit environments. The panels have also received certifications for “perfect black” and “100% color fidelity” from global certifiers UL Solutions and Intertek.
LG Display’s Head of Large Business Division, Hyun Woo Lee, stated, “OLED’s deep black levels and ultra-fast response times are rapidly transforming the high-performance monitor market,” adding, “Leveraging our proprietary technology, LG Display will strengthen its market dominance with OLED monitors featuring ‘Triple Crown’ performance.”
