Doosan Enerbility announced on May 25th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea Western Power (Kowest) to jointly develop and demonstrate Korea’s mid-sized (90MW) hydrogen power plant turbines and to expand into overseas markets.

The signing ceremony took place at Doosan Enerbility’s Changwon Headquarters on May 22nd. Attendees included Lee Jung-bok, President of Korea Western Power, and Jung Yeon-in, Vice Chairman of Doosan Enerbility, along with other representatives from both companies.

Under the terms of the MOU, Doosan Enerbility will be responsible for developing the technology for mid-sized hydrogen power plant turbines and securing the manufacturing technology for the related components. Korea Western Power will focus on applying these turbines to new power plants and demonstrating their performance through on-site testing.

The two companies aim to comply with government policies to increase the share of clean hydrogen in power generation and to establish a stable hydrogen power infrastructure. Additionally, they plan to actively collaborate with domestic medium-sized and small-sized enterprises involved in the project, supporting the entry of Korea’s hydrogen turbines into international markets.

Jung Yeon-in, Vice Chairman of Doosan Enerbility, stated, “Through this partnership, we will develop Korea’s mid-sized hydrogen power plant turbines and lay a solid foundation for domestic hydrogen power stability. We also plan to aggressively pursue overseas expansion.”

Doosan Enerbility continues to develop hydrogen turbines, which are considered a leading zero-carbon power generation technology. The company aims to complete the development of 90MW and 400MW (large-scale) hydrogen turbines by 2028.
