BBQ Group’s latest outlet, the ‘BBQ Central,’ located in Hong Kong’s bustling city center, is attracting overwhelming local interest, emerging as a key hub for the growing popularity of K-food.
On May 27, BBQ announced that its BBQ Central branch in the heart of Hong Kong’s commercial district has recorded a daily peak sales of 20 million won, cementing its status as a new culinary destination in the region.
The restaurant is a large two-story establishment covering approximately 464 square meters (140 pyeong), offering 123 seats. It is strategically situated near popular tourist spots such as the ‘Mid-Levels Escalator,’ famously featured in the film In the Mood for Love, and the transformed cultural complex ‘Central Market.’ The surrounding area is a dense hub of shopping malls, offices, securities firms, and financial institutions, with daily foot traffic exceeding 10,000—making it an ideal location for a premium franchise.
The presence of BBQ in such a prestigious neighborhood—home to numerous Michelin-starred restaurants—indicates local recognition of the franchise’s competitive strength. Leveraging this prime location, BBQ has successfully boosted both brand awareness and sales in the region.
At BBQ Central, popular menu items like ‘Golden Olive Chicken’ and ‘Honey Garlic Chicken’ are receiving enthusiastic responses from local customers, with their crispy coating and juicy flavors cited as key attractions. Additionally, the menu features a variety of Korean dishes such as bulgogi hot stone bibimbap, rosé tteokbokki, and chicken-kal-guksu, capturing the taste buds of young consumers riding the wave of the Korean cultural boom.
A BBQ representative stated, “Hong Kong is at the epicenter of global culinary competition, with diverse cuisines vying for attention. It is very encouraging that BBQ has been able to establish itself as a beloved brand among local residents in such a competitive environment.”
The official added, “Going forward, we will strengthen BBQ’s global position by introducing menus tailored to international tastes and providing convenient services, based on the success of our Hong Kong Central branch.”
Building on this success, BBQ plans to aggressively expand its presence across key Asian markets and beyond, emphasizing localization strategies to become a leading representative of K-food on the global stage.
