In commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Korea's Liberation, SK Innovation has embarked on a project to improve the living conditions of the descendants of Korean independence patriots. This initiative reflects gratitude for their noble sacrifices and dedication.

On August 8, SK Innovation announced that it would be improving the housing environment of four families of independence patriots in areas such as Daejeon and Jeungpyeong, North Chungcheong, by the end of the year. SK Innovation employees are actively participating in the onsite work alongside construction companies, with Habitat for Humanity Korea, a non-profit specializing in residential welfare, overseeing the entire project.

Earlier in May, renovations on the residence of the descendants of Patriot Heo Kyung in Seosan, South Chungcheong, began and concluded with a dedication ceremony on August 7. Patriot Heo Kyung played a significant role in the independence movement, having been arrested in 1937 while active in Hongseong, South Chungcheong, and pledged his property to support the independence cause, for which he was awarded a Presidential Commendation in 2018.

The housing improvement project was sparked by a post and subsequent comments on SK Innovation's internal bulletin board in celebration of the 80th anniversary of Korea's Liberation. A total of 100 million KRW for the project is funded by the "1% Happiness Sharing Fund," which collects 1% of employees' salaries.

SK Innovation plans to expand this housing improvement initiative beyond the descendants of independence patriots to include generations of war veterans, police officers, and firefighters.

An Jun-hyun, SK Innovation's Head of Communication, stated, "It is meaningful to improve the living conditions for the descendants of independence patriots, allowing them to live more comfortably. We will continue our various social contribution activities to benefit the community."
