Hyundai Elevator has been awarded the prestigious 'Winner' accolade in the Concept category at the 2025 Red Dot Design Awards, one of the world's most esteemed design competitions. This achievement highlights the tangible outcomes of the company’s innovation-driven management approach, prominently championed by Chairman Hyun Jeong-eun.
The award was granted for Hyundai Elevator’s groundbreaking air purification concept designed to alleviate passenger anxiety in enclosed spaces, particularly in the wake of COVID-19. Departing from traditional overhead installation methods, the new system features a comprehensive front, middle, and lower surround air purification setup. The device captures indoor pollutants and employs high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters combined with ultraviolet (UV) light to purify the air and eliminate viruses and fine dust.
Notably, the system integrates units on the handrails and the lower section of the elevator to maintain passenger hand functionality, while enabling three-dimensional air circulation, sterilization, and purification from ceiling to floor. Subtle lighting accentuates the system’s functionality and enhances the interior’s sophisticated ambiance, earning high praise from the judges.
A Hyundai Elevator spokesperson remarked, “Our aim was to transform the elevator—a typically confined space—into a more comfortable and inviting environment. We will continue focusing on developing products prioritizing customer safety and convenience.”
The Red Dot Design Awards, organized by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Germany, are globally recognized alongside the iF Design Award and IDEA Design Award as the top three international design competitions.
Hyundai Elevator has a track record of winning multiple accolades, including the ‘Main Award’ at the April 2025 Red Dot Awards for its ‘Smart Hall Button’ integrating foot sensors and AI voice recognition, and previous honors at the iF Design Award (2022) and IDEA Design Award (2018).
