LS Cable & System announced on the 17th that it has been selected as the preferred bidder to supply submarine cables for the Haesong Offshore Wind Project, Korea’s largest offshore wind development initiative.
Previously, LS Marine Solution was also designated as the preferred contractor for the submarine cable construction segment of the same project on June 12th. As a result, both companies will collaborate to manage all stages of the project, from design and manufacturing to installation.
The Haesong Offshore Wind Project involves the construction of two 504 MW offshore wind farms off Heuksan Island, Sinan County, Jeollanam-do. With a total capacity of 1 GW, it stands as the largest offshore wind development project in South Korea. The project is viewed as a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to achieve energy transition and carbon neutrality goals.
The project is overseen by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), a global green energy investment firm, which manages funding and overall project coordination. The offshore wind development is led by Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), a subsidiary responsible for permitting, technology development, and project execution.
LS Cable & System has collaborated successfully with CIP and COP on various projects, including the Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farms in Taiwan (595 MW), Zhong Neng in Taiwan (295 MW), and the Jeonnam offshore wind farm in South Korea (96 MW). The company has also been selected as a preferred bidder for the Fengmiao offshore project in Taiwan (500 MW) and the Taean offshore wind project in Korea (504 MW), expanding its international partnership footprint.
Building on its global partnerships and technical expertise, LS Cable plans to execute the Haesong Offshore Wind Project reliably and efficiently, reinforcing its competitive position in both domestic and international offshore wind markets.
Park Seung-ki, Head of LS Cable’s Domestic Energy Business Division, stated, “The Haesong offshore wind project is an opportunity to maximize synergies between LS Cable and LS Marine Solution,” adding, “We will continue to strengthen the supply chain and contribute to the development of Korea’s renewable energy industry.”
Jonathan Spink, CEO of COP Korea, commented, “The Haesong project represents the continuation of long-standing collaboration between LS Cable and COP,” and expressed intent to “expand cooperation with domestic supply chain companies, grow with local communities, and support Korea’s energy transition.”
Kwon Ji-an, Senior Managing Director of Haesong Offshore Wind Power’s Supply Chain Strategy, emphasized the project’s significance: “This agreement marks an important milestone in domesticating offshore wind industry equipment and stabilizing supply chains,” and further committed to “driving sustainable growth by collaborating with domestic suppliers and enhancing technological competitiveness.”
