LG Uplus announced that it has received the prestigious international certification for responsible AI management, ISO/IEC 42001, on June 10. This achievement signifies LG Uplus's commitment to transparent and trustworthy AI service provision and aims to further enhance its competitive edge in the AI sector.

The accreditation is the world's first international standard jointly established by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) specifically for AI governance. This standard provides a comprehensive framework for companies and organizations to systematically operate and manage AI responsibly. Given the increasing societal and ethical concerns surrounding AI proliferation, LG Uplus has established a management system aligned with these global standards, leading to the successful accreditation.

The certification ceremony took place on June 9 at LG Uplus’s Yongsan headquarters, with key figures including CEO Lee Sang-yeop, CTO of LG Uplus, along with Vice President Jeon Byung-ki of the AX Technology Group, Director Cho Hyun-chul of the Data Science Lab, and Moon Dong-min, President of the Korean Standards Association, attending the event.

To achieve this certification, LG Uplus built a comprehensive AI management system that covers environment analysis, risk identification and assessment, control plan establishment, and performance evaluation. The company also embedded AI governance and ethics standards aligned with LG Group’s corporate strategy, establishing a proactive framework to prevent potential risks in AI technology deployment and utilization.

With existing ISO certifications in information security and quality management, LG Uplus’s new AI management system further affirms its technical reliability and stability on an international level. The certification is especially significant in building a solid foundation for customers to use AI services with complete confidence.

This achievement is expected to play a crucial role in realizing LG Uplus’s ‘4A’ AI strategy announced earlier this year. The ‘4A’ framework represents a phased AI development path focusing on: Assured AI (trust-based AI), Adaptive AI (customer-centered AI), Accompanied AI (AI that supports daily life), and Altruistic AI (AI that benefits humanity and society).

In addition, LG Uplus is continuously refining its internal systems to strengthen AI ethics. It has introduced technologies that automatically de-identify sensitive information entered by users and block harmful or inappropriate data beforehand. The company also collaborates with LG AI Research and other group affiliates to establish an AI governance system designed to minimize risks throughout the development and application processes.

CEO Lee Sang-yeop stated, “With this certification, LG Uplus has demonstrated that it possesses an internationally trusted AI management framework,” and added, “We will continue our efforts to provide the safest and most differentiated AI experiences through ongoing technological and ethical innovations.”
