Vancouver: On Saturday, April 26, the Korean Schools Festival was held at Pacific Academy in Surrey, gathering Korean language schools in Western Canada. The event, themed "Dive into Hangul Fun!" was organized by the Korean Schools Association of Western Canada, led by President Koh Young-suk and Cultural Director Shin Ah-ra.
The Korean Schools Festival, held biennially, has established itself as a major community event, attracting over 1,500 students and parents. Sponsored by the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Vancouver and the Overseas Koreans Agency, the event featured participation from 10 Korean language schools in Western Canada, including Grace Korean Culture School and Edmonton Korean School, showcasing a variety of performances such as choir, rhythmic dance, musicals, and traditional Korean drumming.
Consul General of Vancouver, Jongho Kyun, delivered a congratulatory message, highlighting the global prominence of Korean culture, with phenomena such as K-pop gaining worldwide attention. He emphasized that learning Korean has become a competitive advantage for students and encouraged pride in being Korean, urging further interest in studying the Korean language. The Consulate General in Vancouver announced plans to continue supporting Korean schools to ensure that Koreans in Canada can easily access and study Hangul in their local communities.
