Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) held a ‘Site Detailed Investigation Commencement Ceremony’ at the Dukovany nuclear power plant construction site in the Czech Republic on August 8 (local time).
The detailed site investigation will be conducted over approximately 12 months, with completion scheduled for August 2026. This marks the first phase of the nuclear project, involving a thorough assessment of the location’s characteristics to serve as a foundational basis for future design work.
Key participants at the commencement ceremony included KHNP President Hwang Ju-ho, EDU II President Zbigniew Zaborszky, Czech Industry Minister Bělec, Korean Ambassador Hong Young-gi, and executives from the local investigation contractor CEZ EP. The gathering celebrated the official start of the detailed site survey for the Dukovany plant.
On the same day in the afternoon, a ceremony was also held in Třebíč, Czech Republic, to extend support for regional cooperation, including the sponsorship of the local ice hockey team. KHNP has supported the SK H.S.T. ice hockey team in Dukovany since 2018 and plans to continue engaging in various activities to strengthen its community presence and corporate social responsibility.
President Hwang Ju-ho of KHNP stated, “The detailed site investigation is the first on-site process for the Dukovany project and the practical starting point for designing the APR1000 reactor.” He added, “We will conduct a thorough and systematic investigation according to the contracted schedule to contribute to the successful advancement of this project.”
