Cohere Expands into South Korea with New Seoul Office and APAC Leadership

Cohere Labs is launching a research grant program in South Korea to advance AI safety and multilingual capabilities, while strengthening strategic partnerships like with LG CNS and securing a major AI project with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Cohere announced recently its strategic expansion into the Asia-Pacific region by establishing a new office in Seoul, South Korea—a move that signifies its commitment to delivering advanced, secure AI solutions to businesses and governments across diverse markets and languages. To spearhead this initiative, the company appointed Andrew Chang as Vice President of APAC, bringing extensive experience from top technology giants like Google Cloud, Microsoft, IBM, and Samsung SDS.

This Seoul-based hub will serve as the regional center for driving growth, innovation, and partnerships, reflecting South Korea’s rising prominence in the global AI landscape. Known for its vibrant tech ecosystem, skilled talent pool, and increasing demand for sovereign AI capabilities, South Korea plays a pivotal role in Cohere’s long-term vision to deliver trustworthy, multilingual AI solutions tailored for sensitive industries.

Cohere CEO and co-founder Aidan Gomez expressed enthusiasm about deepening its roots in South Korea, stating, “Having experienced the country’s dynamic AI ecosystem firsthand, I’m excited to expand our presence here. Our focus is on building a strong local team, supporting innovative clients, and collaborating with government agencies to develop secure AI solutions that boost economic productivity across both the public and private sectors.”

Andrew Chang’s appointment underscores Cohere’s commitment to regional leadership, as he brings a track record of leadership in AI and cloud technology from his previous roles. He is passionate about harnessing AI’s transformative power to improve enterprise efficiency and government services worldwide.

Already, Cohere has begun hiring key talent in Seoul to accelerate adoption of its secure, multilingual AI solutions, targeting sectors such as finance, healthcare, manufacturing, energy, and public administration—industries managing sensitive data and requiring compliance with regulatory standards.

In addition, Cohere Labs is launching a research grant program in South Korea, collaborating with local academic institutions and developers to advance research in AI safety, multilingual capabilities, and other high-impact areas. The company is also strengthening strategic partnerships, such as its ongoing work with LG CNS to develop tailored, industry-specific AI solutions. Notably, Cohere recently secured a significant public sector AI project with South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, showcasing its security-first deployment approach.
